Mary has been a communications professional since the early 1970s, working as a journalist, an educator, a speech writer and a government public information manager.

She has written talking points, speeches and news releases for the Mayor of Columbus, Ohio; three directors of Columbus’ Department of Public Service; and the Chief Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court.

Mary is an award-winning journalist, with years of experience in newspaper (Columbus Citizen Journal), magazine (Columbus Monthly), and public-radio reporting (WOSU radio). She is a former assistant editor of Business First of Columbus, one of dozens of weekly newspapers owned by American City Business Journals.

Mary served three years as Faulty Adviser to the 33,000-ciculation week-day newspaper serving the Ohio State University, teaching news reporting, copy editing and advising the student editors. She also taught public speaking at at Columbus Technical Institute (now Columbus State Community College).

While attending graduate school at Ohio State, Mary ventured into the world of retail marketing, as co-owner of a healthy foods store in a public market.

In the past nine years while serving on the communications team of Columbus’ Mayor, Mary gave more than three thousand interviews to newspaper, radio and magazine reporters. She uses that experience to teach media relations to young public information and public relations specialists.
